Continued growth and investment means a busy year for Dana’s Brevini® brand in the UK
Since purchase by Dana in February, the Brevini Group has seen a busy year throughout the UK, working from its bases in Scunthorpe and Warrington – now known as Dana Service and Assembly Centres.

2017 saw major contracts completed across core sectors including:
Industrial and Steel – With the supply of both Posired and Posiplan gearboxes for charge cars to the UK steel industry, Dana continues to expand in this sector. Successful recent projects include:
- A reverse-engineered solution for continuous casting, which has increased MTBF to over 18 months for one client; and
- Gearbox replacement for an overhead track drive where typical gear life was three months. Dana’s rebuilt units have now been running for over a year.
Mobile Machinery – 2017 saw an increase in the requirement for drives for construction machinery and access work platforms, both key markets in which Dana is very strong, with UK contracts including projects integrating fluid power control valves and BPE electronic cards as integrated solutions. Dana is investing in this sector, increasing the range of wheel and track drives, which will be branded as Dana Spicer® products.
Renewables – Recent contracts include both 15T and 5T winches for testing wind turbine blades. The winches are attached at various points down the blade, pulling it down to test for flexibility, resilience and strength, and represent continued expansion in UK renewables for Dana, building on Brevini’s expertise in the sector.
Leisure and Tourism – With contracts from existing theme park customers continuing – both for new specifications and for renewal and servicing – Dana are now supplying a bespoke-design, drop slide electric winch solution, CE marked and full plug- and-play. The supply of a helicopter gimbal prop this year marks a first for Dana in feature film production in the UK.
Marine and Maritime – Bucking the general trend in the oil and gas markets, Dana has secured a range of contracts in the UK, relating to offshore wind and handling systems for laying communications cables, with further projects in these sectors anticipated in the coming year.
Ongoing investment in the UK includes:
A waggon tippler drive, built at the Service and Assembly Centre in Warrington – the assembly connects a tippler cage which accepts and overturns rail carriages full of aggregate. Dana also supplied the positioner drives to transport the carriages into the cage. Additionally, Dana is expanding several current lines of Brevini® motion-system products through:
- a range extension of slewing drives for marine cranes and tower cranes;
- a range extension of planetary winch drives for marine and offshore applications; and
- updated helical and bevel-helical gearboxes for industrial applications.
Recent exhibition highlights include:
Agritechnica – which saw Dana Inc. exhibiting at the world’s leading trade fair for agricultural machinery;
Marintec China – the All-China maritime conference and exhibition, with representatives from Dana in the UK present at the Dana Inc. Shanghai Brevini Gearboxes stand; and
Subsea Expo will see the Dana Brevini Motion Systems brand presenting the company’s latest products to the marine and offshore industry at the world’s largest annual subsea exhibition and conference, in February 2018.
